THE POINT
Spring 2011 On-Line Newsletter
A warm hello from Elizabeth, Mike, Tony, and the Staff of Ocean Point Inn.
We
write to you as spring nears here in Maine. This has been a classic
Maine winter with some major Northeasters packing lots of snow and wind.
Quite the contrast to last year’s mild, dry winter and proof, whether
global warming or not, we can still get a real “Downeast winter.”
As you probably recall, last summer was brilliant - almost perfect with
lots of sunshine and warm weather, but no stifling heat (at least here
on Ocean Point). We have placed our order for a repeat of last summer
and hope you will join us here where good friends gather for the beauty,
tradition, relaxation, and renewal that is known as Ocean Point.
A
Wonderful 2010
Despite a very slow 2009 Season, we recommitted ourselves last year to
the Inn with new on-line marketing efforts and extensive resort
enhancements.
Among the many improvements made in 2010 were new Free resort-wide WiFi,
all new beds in Farmhouse Building B, new bathtubs in Sea Kist, Sea
Chest, Sea Robin, Glimpse, and four Lodge Rooms, and flat screen TVs in
9 units. Our rates did not rise last year for the third year in a row
(in fact many were lowered), and we included a complimentary Continental
breakfast in the room rate for most of our accommodations. We also
offered our in house guests a special discount rate when upgrading to a
full buffet breakfast.
In
our Restaurant, Tony expanded our Tavern menu to be offered nightly and
offered our traditional full Dinner Menu Fri, Sat, Sun and Monday. We
replaced the uncomfortable ladder back chairs with 60 new, much more
comfortable seats.
What’s new in 2011
We said last year that the key words in these economic times are “free,
discount, bargain, value, etc.” We have listened and have lowered many
of our room rates, kept others in check, and offered many more
opportunities for reduced prices to those of you who have flexibility in
your plans. In these challenging times money is so tight, it becomes
harder and harder each year to meet all the guest requests to have their
favorite room upgraded and offer lower rates at the same time. We are
doing the best we can to keep up the property in shape with limited
resources.
Continuing
on the course we took last year, we will renovate more bathrooms, add
more flat screen TVs, and carpet targeted accommodations. This year we
will include free Continental breakfast for ALL Ocean Point Inn lodging
guests.
New Simplified Lower Priced Packages
We have heard you clearly about our Package Plans. This year we have
lowered and simplified package prices including all taxes and gratuities
so there will be no hidden charges; if you like the convenience of
knowing what your stay will cost you in advance, this is a good way to
go.
Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens
2010
saw the opening of the new Children’s Garden, an interactive playground
for children, an instant hit with families. This year the Botanical
Gardens will open the Boursage Family Educational Center which will
focus on sustainable sources of energy and new building technologies.
Getting ready for you - May 27th
We will plan to open our direct ocean view accommodations for Memorial
Day Weekend. By June17 our Restaurant and all of our guest
accommodations will be open and ready for occupancy. The Restaurant will
be open daily for breakfast and dinner until we close for the season
October 10.
We look forward to seeing you at Ocean Point Inn very soon.
